Animal Crossing: New Horizons getting more design slots in first anniversary update

Animal Crossing: New Horizons (ACNH), the game that puts you with other cutesy animal characters on an island and allowing it to transform into your personal paradise, is celebrating its first birthday on Mar 18.

To celebrate the occasion, the game’s developer Nintendo is releasing a free update on Mar 18 that will bring 50 additional custom design slots to both Normal and Pro Custom Design modes. This is something that ACNH players have been asking for a while!

All you need to do is to pay 2,000 Nook Miles to get the Custom Design Pro Editor+ app on your NookPhone in Resident Services to unlock the feature after the update is installed. Using this app, you can also customise umbrellas, small flags, uchiwa and photo stands.

In addition, you can add the Custom Design Portal found in the Able Sisters store directly into your in-game NookPhone app for 300 Nook Miles. You can use it any time, instead of waiting for the Able Sisters store to open.

Not to mention, all ACHN players will get a 1st Anniversary Cake (see main picture) in their in-game mailbox after the update is installed. Other goodies you can expect in the update include whoopee (farting) cushions and prom-themed items.

Last year, ACNH became a cultural phenomenon with the Covid-19 pandemic lockdown forcing people to stay home. And playing this game became an escape, as it allows them to have some control over their lives. ACNH players even meet up in their virtual islands using their avatars as a substitute for physical meet-ups. Fans of this game include celebrities like Captain Marvel actress Brie Larson and Lord of the Rings actor Elijah Wood.
