Intel’s 12th-generation desktop processors have arrived – much to the delight of gamers

During the Intel Innovation developer event this morning, Intel has unveiled its 12th-generation Intel Core “Alder Lake” processor family with the launch of six new desktop processors. These 12th-generation Intel Core desktop processors are said to be up to 19 per cent faster than the 11th-generation Intel chips.

The 12th-generation chips include the Intel Core i9-12900K – the world’s best gaming processor according to Intel. This will definitely be music to the ears of gamers. The Core i9-12900K chip features a total of 16 cores – eight performance cores (P-cores) and eight efficient cores (E-cores) – and 24 threads, which is capable of reaching clock speeds of up to 5.2GHz, thanks to Intel’s Turbo Boost Max 3.0 technology.

Apart from Core i9-12900K, there are i7-12700K (eight P-cores and four E-cores; 20 threads) and the Core i5-12700K (six P-cores and four E-cores; 16 threads) chips. These two chips are for those do not need so much processing power or cannot afford the flagship chip. Each of these three new chips are also available in a KF variant that lacks the integrated Intel UHD Graphics 770 graphics processor.

In addition, the “Alder Lake” processors come with integrated Intel Killer Wi-Fi 6E, which combines high-speed Wi-Fi 6E wireless connectivity with powerful gaming network technology to minimise lag and latency. So, gamers can stream their play with a peace of mind.

There will be also support for discrete Thunderbolt 4 universal cable connectivity for external device expansion as well as up to four USB 3.2 Gen 2×2 ports.

The new 12th-generation Intel Core desktop processors will be available starting from Nov 4 with pricing starting from US$264 to US$589. Intel expects to ship hundreds of thousands of these chips by end 2021 and more than 2 million by the end Mar 2021.
